Chiang Mai calling

Thursday, December 28th, 2006

I love the weather in Chiang Mai! Wish KL had that weather every day. Shopping is good too but not as cheap as Bangkok. Of course, Bangkok had more choices too. Girls in Chiang Mai are definitely fairer and prettier but not necessarily hotter…hahahaha. Massages in Chiang Mai are soooo cheap and pretty good. Had this Burma girl do my leg and it was absolutely fantastic!

Besides shopping and temples, there isn’t much to do in Chiang Mai itself so we took a day tour to Chiang Rai and up the border of Myanmar and Laos, or more famously known as the Golden Triangle. Visiting the Tribal center was also an eye opener where you get to see and experience the way of life of the hill tribe people. There are about 4 or 5 different tribes there (Karen longneck, Akho and I can’t remember the rest). Crossing the Mekong river to Laos was also great.

On our 3 1/2 hours drive back from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai, we passed by some really old school trunk roads and unfortunately, we saw a car that crashed by the roadside. The Avanza was pretty messed up, 4 occupants, 2 sons and parents. They were just crawling out of the car when we passed by. Naturally, we went down to help. The driver was hurt real bad, I’m sure he has internal bleeding. The mother had a cut just above the eyes, the father was bleeding profusely form the head and the other son was pretty alright.

The worst thing about all this, when I arrived at the wreckage, the car radio had this song on - Daniel Powter’s Bad Day…so ironic, I felt goose bumps! To my suprise, the ambulance came within 10 minutes…which was lightning fast because we were in the middle of no where!!!Such efficiency these Thai people I tell you.

On the last day in Chiang Mai, I actually did some self-walking tour around town. Visited a few temples and took a couple of nice pictures I think. I felt sad having to leave Thailand and be back in KL. Sigh…KL holds nothing for me now.

Hehehehe…my bag finally came back, safe and sound, nothing was missing. I categorised all my pics by album, took me a while cause I had about 800+ pics…don’t know how I managed to cam whore so much! Anyways, its not really good to be back, cause then it means its back to normal, which I hate actually, but then again life goes on I suppose.
Back to Bangkok…it is a ‘SHOPPING HEAVEN’ be it for girls or guys. Don’t know why ’someone’ said don’t know what to get for guys in Bangkok. What a load of ********. I could find a million things to get for guys in Bangkok. I guess its down to sincerity…which I doubt people have much these days (I’m gonna be so bombarded for this).
Shopping, shopping, shopping…and its always good to go the first time with a sponsor, so you dont have to spend so much of your own money. Hahahaha. Bangkok is like an elaborate Petaling Street but in a much nicer way + lots of Wat (temples). Bangkok people are very nice, courteous and polite, I guess that’s why its called ‘Land of Smiles’. Bangkok to my suprise is also pretty clean, road systems are orderly and definitely no potholes or patch work on their roads. Cars are nice too, they use Altis for taxis!!!
Chatuchak Market (weekends only), Siam Square (Paragon - Jim Thompson is recommended for gifts, Plaza, Central World Plaza and MBK) and Suan-Lum Night Bazaar (daily) are a must for any shopaholics. You can find just about anything there. And its DIRT cheap. Don’t trust all those flea markets and stalls you get here in Malaysia. One word to describe them = Overpriced. Keep the money, go to Bangkok, buy 10 for the price of 4. The other thing about bargaining there, they will not get upset even if you don’t buy anything! Those intend on clubbing, which I did not have the privilege cause I was with my parents, you should head down to Sukhomvit area…Sukhomvit Soi 11 to be exact. Bed Superclub is there as well as a few more clubs. They look really nice!
We had Vice Admiral Soopakorn play host in Bangkok. Met the whole family and his ADC. Very nice and humble people. The guy is a 3 star General and 1 step away from being Chief of Navy. He is also part of the Royal Guard for the King. Awesome! Oh, Bangkok-ians love their King very much! That’s a good thing actually.
Bumped into Soo Yin and Poh Fei in the Floating Market at Domnoen Saduak. What a place to meet! I haven’t seen them since high school ended…I was caught off guard when a Korean looking girl asked me if I was from BB…hahahaha. See, good thing I was checking her out too, or I wouldn’t have met an old friend!!!
So many things to do and so many things to see. Bangkok is a must for anyone. Excellent place for shopping, food, chillin’ and obviously bird watching. 8 out of 10 Thai girls are pretty :P I had blast…Bong’s stag night is so gonna be in Bangkok!
